Celebrating Clearwater’s award-winning white sugar sand beaches, 1,000 tons of our famous sand will come to life in the Sugar Sand Walk Exhibition, an artistic walk-through sand sculpture, housed in a 14,000 square foot tent. The exhibition will be open from April 19-28 and accessible for a small admission fee. Additional no-cost highlights of the event include:
Frenchy’s Master Sand Sculpting Competition, featuring 6 master sculptors competing for a $5,000 prize. April 25-27
Sugar Sand & Sunsets Sculpting Clinics, where you can learn to create your own sand masterpieces. Workshops will be held beach side both weekends and carving tools will be supplied. Clinics are scheduled for April 19 and 26 at 7:00pm, and 11:00am and 7:00pm on April 20, 21, 27 and 28.
Speed Sand Demonstrations, an interactive sand sculpting experience where the public will write down unusual sand sculpting request and three of the requests eill be drawn at random. Two master sculptors will then have 10 minutes to create their masterpiece. Audience applause determines the winner of each round and the best of three wins. Takes place at 4:00pm April 20, 21, 27, and 28.
Camp Hyatt Sandbox, a children’s play area on the beach with sand toys. Open April 19 – 28, 10:00am – 9:00pm.
Bright House Sand Blast Fireworks! Enjoy a spectacular fireworks display to celebrate the grand finale of the festival on Saturday, April 27th at 9:00pm.
The Sugar Sand Walk Exhibition will be open daily from 10:00am to 10:00pm except for opening day, April 19, it will open at noon. Cost of admission is $7 for adults, $5 for students 13-18 with valid student ID, military personnel and seniors and FREE for children 12 and under.
The ten day festival will celebrate all that is great about our beaches and demonstrate why the readers of USA Today named us as the Best Beach Town in Florida. Not only is 2013 the 60th anniversary of the Fun N Sun Festival, of which the Frenchy’s Sugar Sand Festival is a main attraction, it is also the 500th Anniversary of Florida.
